Description
"National Velvet" stars Elizabeth Taylor as Velvet Brown, an English girl with a passion for horses who wins the spirited but untrained steed Pie in a town auction. Velvet is determined to win the prestigious Grand National, and jaded jockey Mi Taylor (Mickey Rooney) is hired to train her. Although Velvet's father (Donald Crisp) disapproves, her mother (Anne Revere), recalling her own girlhood ambitions, repeatedly overrules his decisions in favor of their headstrong daughter. Against all odds, Velvet and Pie go on to win the Steeplechase at the Grand National.
